This is the first installment of a vast collection of "Noise and Electronic Music" Sub Rosa plan to release over the years in seven double volumes. This volume begins in the 1920s, with the Russolo brothers, and looks at each decade in turn; Ruttman in the 30s, Schaeffer in the 40s, Varèse and Xenakis in the 50s, Cage in the 60s... the great pioneers of a music that was necessarily revolutionary: electronic music, created from nothing (and hence entirely invented).

Some pieces on these CDs are certainly classics, but there are others which, though old, were distributed informally or never even released. More contemporary pieces are, wherever possible, previously unreleased. In fact, more than the half of what you'll find here is previously unreleased and unpublished.
